I can’t even begin to describe the feelings that came along with visiting the island my parents + grandparents grew up in, but I will tell you everything I did + everywhere I went. So here’s a guide to a weekend in Havana: what to do + what NOT to do.

My family fled Cuba for political reasons 35+ years ago. Two weeks ago I was able to walk the streets they once walked, hang out where they used to, + visit the places they used to frequent. It was an extremely surreal cultural experience + now that I have had time to reflect on my short weekend in Havana, I can say I’m 100% happy that I decided to finally go. Thanks to my parents + grandparents, I was raised in Cuban culture + I have always been proud of being Cuban, but with this trip to Havana I feel more Cuban than ever + that is something I will always have with me.
